In the Experimental Department's dynamic Grade 1 English activity class, students recently embarked on an imaginative project all about family, inspired by the “Nice to meet you” chapter. This is no ordinary English class-the Experimental Department is known for its creative and hands-on approach, where learning happens in fun, unexpected ways that make each lesson memorable.

As they began this chapter, the students explored vocabulary about family and friends, learning to introduce loved ones with phrases like “This is my dad” or “Meet my sister.” To bring these words to life, the teacher introduced them to the catchy Finger Family song. The children loved singing it together, laughing as they practiced each family member’s name through a cheerful tune!

Alongside the song, they listened to heartwarming family stories like “My Family” from the Bunny Rabbit series, which showcases the unique hobbies of each family member, and “Guess How Much I Love You” by Sam McBratney, a tale about the incredible bond and love that families share. These activities helped them understand family as something special, diverse, and deeply meaningful.

The excitement continued to build as the class prepared for their main project: creating their own family trees! With crayons, markers, glue, and paper, each student went to work, decorating their family trees with personal touches.

This family tree project was a joyful adventure that allowed the students to practice their language skills while exploring the love and connections that make family so important. It’s this creative, engaging style of learning that makes the Experimental Department such a special place, where English comes to life in a hands-on, unforgettable way!
